Pain underneath my right shoulder, pain while breathing deeply and yawning?
I’ve tried doing research on this to pinpoint some sort of at-home treatment to prevent seeing the doctor (can’t afford right now). Basically, I have a constant degree of pain below my right shoulder that I’ve never had before. The only thing I really can see that caused it was some stretching, but that isn’t out the of ordinary. Its been pretty constant now for 3 days and even hurts when I inhale deeply or yawn.Anyone out there expieriencing this too? Any recommendations for treatment. Currrently I’m taking 8-hour tylenol.
Thank you!

could be Angina which is something you should consider getting looked at by a doctor before it turns into a major heart attack–or an acid reflux which does’nt hurt to get good prescription Nexium

I definitely don’t have any medical expertise, but I’d be more concerned if it was on the left side. I have pulled muscles in my back below my shoulder blade that radiated through my armpit and neck area. Very painful. Hurt the most when breathing deep.
I’d try to pinpoint the area and use moist heat. (Must be moist… more penetrating.)
If it worsens, or you are having sweats or heart palpatations, don’t hesitate to get to a doctor or hospital.

If it is any help I have just got over the same problem. The pain started below my right shoulder blade for a few days then went around to my chest it got so bad I could not move let alone breath deeply. I went to my doctor who said I had a trapped nerve and a possible disk bulge and was prescribed muscle relaxing pills and pain killers. I was also given some light exercises to do to get the facet joints moving. It took ten days to recover but now have a chest infection caused by shallow breathing. So please do not leave it till you are in the state I was in to see your doctor.
Good Luck -

Please see your DR. My mother’s cancer was between her lungs, but it’s starting symptoms were shoulder and arm pain. I am not a fear monger nor do I want to make you panic, but have it checked out, It could be just a stressed muscle or heart issues or any number of things.

if we’re trying to think on most positive terms it could just be a muscle pull. There are some gels that might help, but what is your age? I would suggest that the best thing to do would be to see a doctor to rule out other serious causes. Sorry.

With such limited information, I do have a couple of guesses (not diagnosis’s). Could be you have pleurisy which is an inflammation of the tissue outside of the lung. Are you coughing, or spitting up sputum that’s green/yellow? Fever? If so, could be pneumonia. And you’ll definitely need anti-biotics. If you have an inflammation you will benefit from ibuprofen/aspirin (with food) rather than Tylenol-type products. I’d also suggest the old fashioned “chicken soup” as it couldn’t hurt, and it’s been found to have herbs that open up the bronchi. At any rate, please at least go to the public clinic as this could be very serious. Godloveya.

I’m experiencing the same exact symptoms. I think mine is from working out or from my dance class. When I turn to look over my left shoulder it hurts.

hi dont delay seeing your gp
-
The original post was March 8. Don’t you think it’s a little late for that comment, jolane? I mean, if you have significant pain every time you inhale and after better than 3 months, you still haven’t seen your gp, or some other medical professional, about it, you may some other kind of problem — y’know?

I have the same problem. Every time I take a deep breath, My upper back hurts, especially just below the left shoulder blades. There is only minimal pain if i stretch, bend or twist but ots really hurts every time I breathe in, yawn, cough, burp or sneeze. I tried to recollect my past activities that might have contributed to this and all i can think of is my dance class last July 31st. I’ve had this for three days now and I am not sure if I had to see the doctor already or try to take medicine (ibuprofen) first?

I am experiencing the same problem. i am an elite soccer player and very in shape but when i run this pain under my right shoulder blade gets a sharp pain and it hurts to breathe!

I started having pain around right chest & back 4 days ago. few hours after the pain started it disappeared but started right lowere back (arond kidney area). Then that disappeared & started paining round neck (at the back). I now have pain on my right shoulder. All these pain felt/fee like muscle pain so I hope its that.
I also had Pneumothorax earlier in April.
Any suggestions? I guess I should see GP. -
I’m also experiencing the same thing. I have to cough though at times.. Its only been two days but im going to see my gp tomorrow.

The pain from yawning or breathing deeply - if it’s between your spine and shoulder blade and if it came on due to exercise or physical activity related to raising weight laterally with your shoulder it’s probably a rhombus strain.
I have that come on when i do shrugs with weight that’s too heavy or when i do lateral raises or rear-delt exercises - again with weight that’s too heavy.
Treatments I’ve employed include rest and heat&ice and anti-inflammatories regularly for a week or two. don’t stretch for a few days.
Good stretches to do after include standard neck exercises moving the head away from the injured side and pulling your injured-side arm across your body and pulling on it comfortably.
can’t speak from a medical perspective so if you have any previously existing ailments that have similar symptoms or symptoms that have escalated as a result of this you should definitely see a doctor.
Cheers!

I have had that dull pain below my shoulder blade whenever I yawn for about a day now. I have Afib so I have to be careful. I just took a nice hot bath, and shower (and breathed in the steam for my lungs) and have noticed that the pain is gone. ???? They say that a heart attack for a woman usually starts with a dull pain in the back, so I was kind of nervous about this. I watched for sweats and palpitations that never came, so maybe I am ok. But.. I deffinately am going to let my cardio Know about this experience.

I have only began having these symptoms. I do have other medical conditions such as emphysema but have never had this pain before. It gets better for a day or so and then gets excruciating for a while. Im scared and cant afford meds.

I have been having pain underneath my right shoulder blade. Whenever I breath, yawn or sneeze it hurts. It’s almost like when I yawn or breathe deeply I can’t breath to my full extent.
I don’t have health insurance they say I make too much money or whatever…I guess 40 hrs a week in a min. wage job is too much. whatever.
Anyway, I am going to the doctor anyway because I have been having it for almost a year and it is hard for me to even lay on my back flat because of the pain. I tried getting a massage…nothing. Sometimes it is a weird sort of pleasure when I stretch it just because it is pulling on it and makes me feel better about it. I don’t know. Nothing seems to help.
No sweats or fever. So I don’t know

Based on my experience with this muscle pain when breathing deeply, I recommend getting a deep massage in the shoulder blade muscles. That really loosens things up. When you breathe deeply, you are using muscles. Naturally those muscles will interact with other muscles, which are in your case inflamed, causing pain. I have the same thing. Massage helps. If it doesnt help for you, maybe it is something else. But dont get yourself all worried about it. There are so many muscles in your body doing so many different things. Unusual movements, even if you didnt injure yourself or notice at the time it was unusual, could cause muscle aches and pain.

i am experiencing the same symptoms, it hurts when i inhale and exhale but hurts even more when i move….. I woke up with it 2 days ago..I have no idea what it may possibly be!

Woke up a few days ago, and took a breath and felt a sharp pain on my upper left side of my back ( between shoulder blade & spine). It went away for 2 days, and i woke up this morning with the same thing, ( a little bit more painful than the 1st time).
I dont usually go to doctors, cause my parents dont really believe in them. So i havent been checked out for anything for atleast 3 years ( since my boarding school )should I be worried? ( im also a smoker)
-
im experiencing this, really painful if i sneeze, breath in, cough, or even when i move it sometimes, i could cope with it a few days ago, but its becoming really painful now. i dont really want to go to a docter, but im abit worried, becuase i play alot of sport, and only 13. “/

my 13yr old son has same problem,he can move his shoulder but it hurts him, like an ache, and when he breathes in too deeply it hurts him like a sharp pain. His is on the right side and just under his right shoulder,i think he might have pulled a muscle or torn a ligament as he was fighting with his younger brother in the garden 2 days ago and practising his rugby moves.Even so im still going to take him to the drs.JUST SO I KNOW! peace of mind and all that!

I got this too, my shoulder hurts when breathing in deeply, feels like it is coming from the socket. started last weds after lifting my toolbag up several flights of stairs.
I quit smoking 5 weeks ago and initially it felt like the pain was acroos my chest, have heard that this could be my lungs clearing out. Now the pain is just in my shoulder but is improving.
Had a massage of the ladyfriend last night which helped, gonna give it another weekn then see the doctor if no improvement.
I think it must just be a strained muscle???

Solution:
I am recovering! I had pain under my left shoulder blade. It began feeling just like a pulled muscle but instead of getting better or staying the same, it got worse. I began to restrict my range of movement with burning muscle like pain and sharp pain that would escalate with movement. Then I could not inhale fully. I thought I would need to go to the emergency room because it was so painful to move or do anything.
Going to bed and thinking about the possibility of infection and my own mortality, I rummaged through the medicine cabinet. Found a full bottle of Amoxacillan prescribed to my daughter years ago, I followed the directions and overnight feel much better.
I would swear it was muscle. I had a board meeting last night at my Church and propped the metal chair under my shoulder blades and could take deeper breaths. Uncanny.

I was changing gears in the car 2 days ago and all of a sudden I got pain in my back by my right shoulder blade. Any time I move anything above my waist, it hurts. I have to carry a pillow around to lean on when I sit. I can hardly do anything. And I have a cough which makes the pain worse. My husband tried to massage it but it hurt too bad. What’s wrong with my back?

Gallbladder problems can refer pain under the right shoulder. If you have pressure or pain in the sternum area, between and where your ribs meet in your chest…nausea or vomiting, especially after a fatty meal,I would see your GP. Good chance it is gallstones.

I’ve had a pain in my back, below my shoulder, between my shoulder blade and spine on the right side for months now. I’m a right-handed, 24 years old female, and have no other symptoms aside from a pain that varies from no pain to intense pain that makes me want to cry. I also get a sharp pain when I yawn, every time I yawn regardless of whether or not I feel stationary pain. For the most part, my boyfriend’s massages ease the pain for about a day but I feel bad asking him to massage me almost every night. I originally attributed the problem to sleeping strangely on a mattress that’s too firm and saw some improvement when I switched mattresses but the pain is back and it’s only getting worse. I’ve tried not using my right hand/shoulder to lift or carry anything and I’m currently experimenting with stretches. I think I’m going to visit a doctor soon and see what they have to say about it. Until then, guilty massages, a useless right appendage, and stretches. Will report on what the doc says whenever I get around to going. I also have a sneaking suspicion that stress plays at least a small part but I’m not 100% sure of it. This pain sucks!

My husband is having issues as well. He has pain under his left shoulder. He is having a hard time breathing, coughing and stretching because its too painful.(He does have Asthma)
I dont know if it being on the left side as appose to the right side (as everyone else here is talking about) if that makes a difference. If anyone has any ideas please let us know. Like i said its the left side and not the right side - so maybe there might be a difference >.< who knows …. thx -
Hello,I also have the same problem and I’m very curious,I woke up with a. Pain in my upper right shoulder/back area,it only hurts when I breath in deeply or bend or move,I’m hoping its just a pulled or strained muscle,I’m a 20 yr old female,I got some muscle rub but it still feels the same,if any1 has answers pleasssse respond, thanku

This is my fourth day with pain in the “back,” in the area of my left shoulder blade. It feels like it’s between my shoulder blade and my spine, rather like it’s tucked slightly “under” my left shoulder blade. It’s getting better now–after ibuprofen and taking it easy in movement–but there’s still a residual sharp pain when I inhale deeply, especially when the inhalation in involuntary due to an oncoming yawn or sneeze.
My self-diagnosis is a muscle strain of some interior muscle that governs movement of the chest/ribs where they attach to the spine. I’m going to keep up the rest/ibu regimen for a few days and will report on results.
