Pain underneath my right shoulder, pain while breathing deeply and yawning?
I’ve tried doing research on this to pinpoint some sort of at-home treatment to prevent seeing the doctor (can’t afford right now). Basically, I have a constant degree of pain below my right shoulder that I’ve never had before. The only thing I really can see that caused it was some stretching, but that isn’t out the of ordinary. Its been pretty constant now for 3 days and even hurts when I inhale deeply or yawn.Anyone out there expieriencing this too? Any recommendations for treatment. Currrently I’m taking 8-hour tylenol.
Thank you!

could be Angina which is something you should consider getting looked at by a doctor before it turns into a major heart attack–or an acid reflux which does’nt hurt to get good prescription Nexium

I definitely don’t have any medical expertise, but I’d be more concerned if it was on the left side. I have pulled muscles in my back below my shoulder blade that radiated through my armpit and neck area. Very painful. Hurt the most when breathing deep.
I’d try to pinpoint the area and use moist heat. (Must be moist… more penetrating.)
If it worsens, or you are having sweats or heart palpatations, don’t hesitate to get to a doctor or hospital.

If it is any help I have just got over the same problem. The pain started below my right shoulder blade for a few days then went around to my chest it got so bad I could not move let alone breath deeply. I went to my doctor who said I had a trapped nerve and a possible disk bulge and was prescribed muscle relaxing pills and pain killers. I was also given some light exercises to do to get the facet joints moving. It took ten days to recover but now have a chest infection caused by shallow breathing. So please do not leave it till you are in the state I was in to see your doctor.
Good Luck -

Please see your DR. My mother’s cancer was between her lungs, but it’s starting symptoms were shoulder and arm pain. I am not a fear monger nor do I want to make you panic, but have it checked out, It could be just a stressed muscle or heart issues or any number of things.

if we’re trying to think on most positive terms it could just be a muscle pull. There are some gels that might help, but what is your age? I would suggest that the best thing to do would be to see a doctor to rule out other serious causes. Sorry.

With such limited information, I do have a couple of guesses (not diagnosis’s). Could be you have pleurisy which is an inflammation of the tissue outside of the lung. Are you coughing, or spitting up sputum that’s green/yellow? Fever? If so, could be pneumonia. And you’ll definitely need anti-biotics. If you have an inflammation you will benefit from ibuprofen/aspirin (with food) rather than Tylenol-type products. I’d also suggest the old fashioned “chicken soup” as it couldn’t hurt, and it’s been found to have herbs that open up the bronchi. At any rate, please at least go to the public clinic as this could be very serious. Godloveya.

I’m experiencing the same exact symptoms. I think mine is from working out or from my dance class. When I turn to look over my left shoulder it hurts.

hi dont delay seeing your gp

The original post was March 8. Don’t you think it’s a little late for that comment, jolane? I mean, if you have significant pain every time you inhale and after better than 3 months, you still haven’t seen your gp, or some other medical professional, about it, you may some other kind of problem — y’know?

I have the same problem. Every time I take a deep breath, My upper back hurts, especially just below the left shoulder blades. There is only minimal pain if i stretch, bend or twist but ots really hurts every time I breathe in, yawn, cough, burp or sneeze. I tried to recollect my past activities that might have contributed to this and all i can think of is my dance class last July 31st. I’ve had this for three days now and I am not sure if I had to see the doctor already or try to take medicine (ibuprofen) first?

I started having pain around right chest & back 4 days ago. few hours after the pain started it disappeared but started right lowere back (arond kidney area). Then that disappeared & started paining round neck (at the back). I now have pain on my right shoulder. All these pain felt/fee like muscle pain so I hope its that.
I also had Pneumothorax earlier in April.
Any suggestions? I guess I should see GP. -
I’m also experiencing the same thing. I have to cough though at times.. Its only been two days but im going to see my gp tomorrow.

The pain from yawning or breathing deeply - if it’s between your spine and shoulder blade and if it came on due to exercise or physical activity related to raising weight laterally with your shoulder it’s probably a rhombus strain.
I have that come on when i do shrugs with weight that’s too heavy or when i do lateral raises or rear-delt exercises - again with weight that’s too heavy.
Treatments I’ve employed include rest and heat&ice and anti-inflammatories regularly for a week or two. don’t stretch for a few days.
Good stretches to do after include standard neck exercises moving the head away from the injured side and pulling your injured-side arm across your body and pulling on it comfortably.
can’t speak from a medical perspective so if you have any previously existing ailments that have similar symptoms or symptoms that have escalated as a result of this you should definitely see a doctor.
Cheers!

I have had that dull pain below my shoulder blade whenever I yawn for about a day now. I have Afib so I have to be careful. I just took a nice hot bath, and shower (and breathed in the steam for my lungs) and have noticed that the pain is gone. ???? They say that a heart attack for a woman usually starts with a dull pain in the back, so I was kind of nervous about this. I watched for sweats and palpitations that never came, so maybe I am ok. But.. I deffinately am going to let my cardio Know about this experience.

I have only began having these symptoms. I do have other medical conditions such as emphysema but have never had this pain before. It gets better for a day or so and then gets excruciating for a while. Im scared and cant afford meds.

I have been having pain underneath my right shoulder blade. Whenever I breath, yawn or sneeze it hurts. It’s almost like when I yawn or breathe deeply I can’t breath to my full extent.
I don’t have health insurance they say I make too much money or whatever…I guess 40 hrs a week in a min. wage job is too much. whatever.
Anyway, I am going to the doctor anyway because I have been having it for almost a year and it is hard for me to even lay on my back flat because of the pain. I tried getting a massage…nothing. Sometimes it is a weird sort of pleasure when I stretch it just because it is pulling on it and makes me feel better about it. I don’t know. Nothing seems to help.
No sweats or fever. So I don’t know

Based on my experience with this muscle pain when breathing deeply, I recommend getting a deep massage in the shoulder blade muscles. That really loosens things up. When you breathe deeply, you are using muscles. Naturally those muscles will interact with other muscles, which are in your case inflamed, causing pain. I have the same thing. Massage helps. If it doesnt help for you, maybe it is something else. But dont get yourself all worried about it. There are so many muscles in your body doing so many different things. Unusual movements, even if you didnt injure yourself or notice at the time it was unusual, could cause muscle aches and pain.
